This is one of my favorite “girl-group” songs, though recorded by a single lass– Sharon Marie Esparza. She was a Beach Boys protege, and I’ve read that she dated one of them– Mike Love? In any event, this is a good example of Brian Wilson recording in the “Phil Spector style,” albeit heightened with fabulous surf drums. Sharon Marie recorded eight songs; this is the best. The background vocals are provided by The Blossoms, the lead singer of whom was my favorite– Darlene Love. I found this video on You Tube, and it’s not a live performance, as it shows only the record’s label and a still shot of Sharon Marie with BIG HAIR.

I still say that she sounds like a mean fat girl who eats meatball sandwiches in class and gets in trouble, kind of like Dawn Davenport. Let me know when you capture some REAL talent on your blog, like…The Jellybeans.
